Description

For patients at ‘high risk’ of developing pressure ulcers in the susceptible heel area, HEELSAFE® Boot offers proven method of heel off loading. Whilst patients with existing skin damage will and that the unique design and breathable fabrics allow for effective wound healing.

Both pressure and shear on the heel area are of key importance to clinicians. The prominence of the heel with a patient in bed means that the heel is put under intense pressure. The design of the inflated portion of HEELSAFE® Boot helps to reduce the pressure and also shear of the heel. The quad cell technology helps ensure a stable platform for the foot and helps keep the heel in the correct position.

There are two variations of HEELSAFE®, with 3 sizes for each. One model uses press studs with a wipe clean liner, whilst the other is fixed in position with Velcro® and has a fleece lining for comfort. Both models can be adjusted for a secure and comfortable fit.

STUDY ON OFF LOADING* Barakat‐Johnson M et al, April 2022 1

  • Multi-centre, single-blinded randomised controlled trial.
  • Carried out a study on 394 critically ill patients with an off loading boot and a pillow over 28 days. 197 in each group.
  • The study concluded the heel off loading boot significantly reduced heel pressure injuries compared with heel off loading using pillows.
  • One pressure injury recorded in the intervention group was superficial (stage 1) whereas eleven were recorded in the control group and were more severe (stage 2 to 4).
